For the last three years I’ve been sticking to the rule to go somewhere for a real offline holidays once a year – without my phone, computer or Internet. To clear my head and have a social media detox. I love my work and writing about travels, but even though most of the year I’m visiting places around the world and almost always everyone wishes me to have a “nice holidays”. However, it is never the holidays, because I work all the time… That is how it is, and that is what being a travel blogger is all about. But once a year I have to take at least a few days off, to be lazy, sunbath, swim, eat a lot of good food and drink chilled prosecco.
This year I had a few free days on September. And because the world situation is like it is, it must have been Europe. I chose Greece – vacation in Greece cannot fail me, right? :)
What a place I discovered!
Without any unnecessary deliberations I present to you a place that stole my heart because it met all the conditions of perfect holidays. I know, I wasn’t supposed to take photos (I should have rest), but in such place I couldn’t help myself :) I also knew that you would love it! I did a bit of research and despite the fact that I had several options to choose from, the location of the place and easy access prevailed.
Villa Marathon is only 35 km from Athens International Airport and 45 km from the center of Athens and the Archaeological Monument – Acropolis. This means that if you fly to Athens and rent a car at the airport, you will be in the villa within an hour from landing. Perfect for a weekend gateway in Europe.
Perfect location and cheap access
I discovered – Caldera Car Rental (which is located 15 minutes from the airport, but as part of the car rental, someone from the rental company picks up and takes back to the airport). To be honest, I didn’t care about any special car. It was only supposed to take me to the villa, make a few rounds around the area and transport me to a nearby town for dinner every day. So I took the smallest and cheapest option. The rental for 5 days cost me only 30 euros! I highly recommend you this option.
The villa is located on the hills, which guarantees full peace, quietness and privacy. However, after 15 minutes of driving there is the fishing port Nea Makri surrounded by various bars, small restaurants and cafes, so you can easily go for a dinner in the evening. I’ve tested a few taverns, but I recommend Panormítēs – amazing seafood (especially fresh squids and octopus in caper sauce) and The Fisherman – delicious Greek salad, tzatziki and fish. Additionally, the tables stand on the beach, so you eat literally on the sand, under the stars.
The average price of dinner for two people (in each tavern it was similar), which consisted of: Greek salad, tzatziki, two large portions of seafood, a few glasses of wine and water, bread – it was about 35 euros. Greece off-season is the best :)
Not far from the villa is also the Gulf of Schinias, one of the longest and most beautiful beaches of Attica with a number of small traditional Greek taverns, where you can also try authentic local specialties.
Private villa with an amazing infinity swimming pool
The villa is fully equipped, has 120 sq. m. of space, tropical garden around, a private rooftop terrace with infinity swimming pool and amazing view of Schinias National Park and the sea.
The interior is cozy with comfortable sofas and a fireplace in the living room. However, what I like the most is the fact that from each window there is a view of the area. In the villa there are two bedrooms with double beds, so 4 people can stay here freely, and there is also a possibility to add an extra bed. So it is an ideal place if you want to come with family or friends.
You will probably not be surprised that I chose this villa not only because of its location, but also because of an amazing rooftop terrace with a swimming pool. There are no holidays without drifting on a mattress! The place was stunning, and I spent practically the whole trip, sunbathing, reading and sipping prosecco. The temperature at the beginning of October was up to 32 degrees Celsius. That’s what I needed and I believe that you wouldn’t despise such a gateway either ;) Not to mention that from the terrace you can admire sunsets and at night stare at the stars and flashing towns in the background.
For me it was a dream holidays and with a clear conscience I recommend this place to you.
To sum up: the villa is cozy and well equipped. From Athens you can reach it by car in 40 minutes. In Caldera Car Rental you can rent a car at a very reasonable price. You have the whole place for yourself, which guarantees privacy, silence and a good rest. Just 15 minutes from the villa there are large supermarkets and plenty of brilliant restaurants and cafes. It is easy to organize such trip and I encourage you to do so.
As I wrote you in the title Villa Marathon in Greece is a perfect weekend gateway in a luxury villa with an infinity pool. Also, off-season.
