There is an amazing nature in Norway. The country is perfect for outdoor activities. You can’t miss them, when you are there! That’s why I would like to share with you my idea for an active day I spent during my stay in Norway. I was in Akershus, which is one of 19 counties in Norway.
You can get almost to all parts of Akershus within one hour from the center of Oslo. That is why you can visit most of the places easily to spend a nice afternoon or weekend.
I started my day in the XI-century Nes Kirkeruiner (the ruins of Nes Church). It is a fascinating place where the rivers Vorma and Glomma meet. The whole building looked very mysterious.
I was there completely alone and it made me feel like in the movie about medieval times :) I think I’m not the only one who felt like this, because the place is a popular spot for weddings, concerts and many cultural events. Totally worth visiting!
My main plan for that day was to make a mountain trip. If you like to hike, you will enjoy Mistberget. If you don’t, you will have a chance to change your mind :) Mistberget is located 663 meters above the sea level and it is a highest peak in Eidsvoll municipality. The view from the top is one of the greatest views in the Oslo region.
You can get to Mistberget by the road 177 toward Eidsvoll. Then, take the road 181 towards Minnesund and turn left on the road nr 33. Follow it until the yellow sing showing Hurdal (left). Turn on Minneasen – direction Hurdal. Follow the road about 3.5 km and you will find a small parking spot by the sign: Mistberget. You can leave the car right before the barrier and begin your hike.
The road to the top is about 3km, so it is not very long, but on the other hand you need to hike a little to get there.
It’s really a beautiful place for a walk. The surrounding of the forest in companion of birds singing is so peaceful. Somewhere between the trees you can hear the sheep’s bells and sometimes the animals that grass around. Very Norwegian experience :)
There is a small lake almost at the top of the mountain. It looks like Photoshopped :) The colors are insane.
I made a stop there. There is also a place with a table where you can have a snack and admire the wonderful lake view. Norwegians always know where to make a perfect place for a snack :)
At the top, you can find a 16-meter high old fire watchtower. If you are brave enough to climb up, you will have a chance to admire the beautiful panoramic view of a large part of Romerike and the neighboring counties.
Just to let you know, there is no security barrier behind your back. If you have a fear of heights, this is really not for you. I don’t have it, but to be honest, I didn’t feel comfortable climbing. Probably, because the wind was pretty strong that day. Anyway, the view is wonderful, so I’m sure it’s worth a few minutes of fear :D
On my way back, I made some new friends. They were on their way for a hike too :)

The whole hike took me around 4 hours, but I wasn’t in rush and I made some stops for photos.
After the hike you obviously need to eat something. I did! :) There is a nice Norwegian restaurant: Nebbeness Kafeteria in Eidsvoll. They serve healthy and delicious Norwegian food. I had a cooked salmon with vegetables and it was simple and tasty. Perfect fit dish :)
On my way back to Oslo I made a stop at Hurdalssjoen Lake. I just had to. Look at this view… Such a perfect dusk…
It was an amazing evening that day so I decided to come back to Oslo through smaller roads. Just to have some time to admire the nature and pretty towns on my way.
That is what I love about Norway. It’s so charming that even an ordinary drive is a pleasure.
It was a nice combination of staying active, sightseeing and chilling out. That’s how I like to travel the most :)
