As a break from hickey and super active days, which are not difficult to find in St. Moritz, I would also like to introduce you to a place that is perfect for relaxing and at the same time guaranteeing unearthly views. In addition, for a change, you don’t have to climb on your own feet.<\/p>\n

Diavolezza is famous for its beautiful views of the eternal ice and the highest peaks of the Eastern Alps – including Piz Bernina (4049 m). You can get here comfortably by cable car. First of all, it is a wonderful view point on the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers, the Piz Pal\u00fc and Piz Bernina massif, and looking north – Val Bernina with the Bernina Pass. Just take into account that to be able to admire this view, you need pristine weather. I am a fan of all the foggy and mysterious climates, but just here and at this height the fog means complete milk and the inability to see further than one meter, so you miss the point. So choose a sunny day with good clarity, and you will not regret it. I had only two such sunny days during my stay in Grisonia and one of them was dedicated to Diavolezza. This place is unique, monumental and hypnotic. It also has a very well organized background to contemplate the surrounding nature.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

At 3000 m above sea level there is a panoramic Diavolezza restaurant, which serves regional cuisine. However, its biggest attraction is the possibility to eat outside. You can enjoy coffee drunk in the sun surrounded by snow-covered peaks. I won’t lie if I add that here I ate the traditional Engadine cake (shortcake with caramel and nuts), the best of all I have tried in the region. Everyone deserves such a moment of pleasure!<\/p>\n

What’s more, you can spend the night here and enjoy the Jacuzzi, with a panoramic view, water at 41\u00b0C and a glass of prosecco in your hand. This time I did not try it, but it sounds like one of the best Jacuzzi places you can imagine.<\/p>\n

Besides relaxing, the Diavolezza mountain station also has its active side and is a starting point for longer trips in the Bernina region, guided hikes on the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers or on Piz Trovat.<\/p>\n

If you decide to go for a small climb to Munt Pers, you will reach an unusual place for a barbecue and picnic on Sass Queder. Barbecue on the glacier at an altitude of 3000 m above sea level? Why not?<\/p>\n

If you are a fan of winter sports, you will surely be interested in the fact that Diavolezza is famous for its stunning moonlit slopes and the longest glacier slopes in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The legend of the beautiful devil<\/h2>\n

Just like many mysterious and inaccessible places, Diavolezza is also associated with a legend.<\/p>\n

According to a story that was passed down from generation to generation, many years ago in “Munt Pers” (lost mountain) lived a woman of extraordinary beauty. In a place where the sun reflected in a blue lake, surrounded by rocks and scree, the woman used to take a refreshing bath. Several times young hunters saw her. Short, fleeting moments were enough to delight the hunters and make them reckless. Some followed the seductive beauty and never returned.<\/p>\n

Aratsch, a handsome young man from the village, also disappeared. He was searched for in vain and was finally assumed to have fallen into the Persian icefalls. Then something incredible happened. Everyone who found himself in the Bernine Range at nightfall heard a wailing voice shouting the following three words: “Mort ais Aratsch, mort ais Aratsch…” (Aratsch is dead).<\/p>\n

Was she the beautiful devil “Diavolezza”, whose incredible beauty was the cause of the death of several young men? Or was she the one who mourned Aratsch’s death?<\/p>\n

Legend has it that Diavolezza did not have peace until the glacier covered the valley with ice and scree. Then she was never seen or heard again. But that does not mean that she is no longer there…<\/p>\n

Height: 2973 m above sea level.
\nAccess: Train from Chur or St. Moritz to Berninan Diavolezza (partly with a change or bus from Pontresin), cable car to Diavolezza. Note: The entrance of the cable car is not covered by the Swiss Travel Pass\/GA. Tickets are purchased upon arrival at the station.
\nView: Pers and Morteratsch glaciers; Piz Pal\u00fc and Piz Bernina and Val Bernina massif with Bernina Pass.
