In 1979 the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The Old Part of the city is absolutely special. I felt like traveling a few centuries back in time. You can really feel a different reality and that&#8217;s a treasure.<\/p>\n<p>There is only one problem. The city is jam packed with tourists, which means that you are going to explore it in companion of hundreds of people. If you don\u2019t mind \u2013 that\u2019s ok. But if you do (like me), I have a proposition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How about morning jogging in the Old Town?<\/strong> You will kill two birds with one stone and it will give you a whole new perspective of the city, almost without the tourists.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2385\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317286hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317286hanna-kantor.jpg 960w, https:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317286hanna-kantor-533x400.jpg 533w, https:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317286hanna-kantor-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Let me show you, that the city is worth exploring this way.<\/p>\n<p>I woke up quite early at 5.30am (I know that it is a middle of the night almost, but you won\u2019t regret), wore my sport clothes and I was ready. I lived close to the Old Town, so it was easy-breazzy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2389\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317351hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve started with a warm up in the harbor with the beautiful view of the ships that started to take off for the open sea.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2386\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317290hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2387\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317292hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Never forget about the warm up before any training! Especially, in the morning, when your body is quite stiff after the night.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I begun the slow jogging, just to finish a warm up before an intense training.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2388\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317319hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I run around the harbor right next to <strong>Porporela<em>. <\/em><\/strong>This is a pier and breakwater in Dubrovnik\u2019s Old Harbor. It was originally built in the old times to reduce the intensity of waves, reduce erosion and protect boats and ships anchored in Dubrovnik\u2019s harbour.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I was on my way to<strong> Lu\u017ea Square,<\/strong> located in the eastern end of the <b>Stradun <\/b>(the main promenade).\u00a0This is one of the most impressive squares in the Old Town.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2382\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317267hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I passed by the Clock Tower, an elegant 31 m high timepiece, dating from 15th century. It is a magnificent landmark of the Old Town.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2384\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317278hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I run next to the <strong>Sponza Palace. <\/strong>It was built in XVI century, designed by architect Pasij Milicevic. The interesting thing is that, it is\u00a0one of a few buildings that survived Dubrovnik\u2019s \u00a01667 earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I turned into one of the small, narrow streets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2379\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317212hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was warmed up enough so I speeded up my tempo. There were high steps everywhere (as Dubrovnik is a hilly city) so I started to run up and down.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2378\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317193hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I won\u2019t lie that it was quite intense. However, the view of the city that wakes up in the morning, made it easier for me :)<\/p>\n<p>To make the training more complex, I made some push-ups, squats and crunches on my way. I used the stairs and bench I found.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2380\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317230hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, I turned to the main promenade. In one of the small squares I found a morning fruit market. It looked amazing!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2373\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317060hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2383\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317275hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was running around the small squares and streets and enjoying the silence and city vibes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2374\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317104hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2381\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317262hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2395\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317375hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I made a short stop at the <strong>Onofrio\u2019s Fountain<\/strong>. A fountain decorated with masks. The water there is drinkable, which was a bless, cause I didn\u2019t have any water with me.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2375\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317140hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That was also a perfect spot to admire another example of early\u00a0Renaissance architecture &#8211; <strong>St. Saviour Church <\/strong>(Crkva Svetog Spasa).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2376\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317156hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was built in 1520s immediately after the earthquake in Dubrovnik,\u00a0in the gratitude for the fact that the city had been spared from destruction. The church has survived\u00a0throughout\u00a0the history to nowadays, almost intact.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I made a turn, passed by <strong>Franciscan Monastery<\/strong>\u00a0dominating the Stradun and I was on my way back to see <strong>Rector\u2019s Palace<\/strong>\u00a0located in south part of <strong>Lu\u017ea <\/strong><strong>Square<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2399\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317418.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"4608\" height=\"3456\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Place\u00a0was\u00a0originally built in 13th century and housed state offices.\u00a0Nowadays, it is the Town\u00a0Museum \u2013 Gradski Muzej as well as\u00a0a concert hall.<\/p>\n<p>It was my last stop so I cooled down in the shade of arcades.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2392\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317362hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, I was not the only one who found this place perfect for a rest. Meet my great companion in stretching:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2391\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317359hanna-kantor-1.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To be clear, I did a stretching and the cat was sleeping and thinking that I am out of my mind do the training so early :)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2393\" src=\"http:\/\/travelandkeepfit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/P8317365hanna-kantor.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I need to admit that it was magical. The city is so beautiful and there are plenty of places to run between small streets. Running is the easiest way to workout, because you need only a good pair of shoes and a bit of energy. A great idea is also to run on the City Walls.
