In almost every city I have my favorite place to eat. In some of them even a few. This one is very special. Not only because Australia has a special place in my heart, but also because I like here everything. The stuff, the arrangement, the food. The whole concept of multitasking place. Let me introduce you an extraordinary The Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney.
The place is located in a former industrial precinct from the 1920s. It combines a coffee roastery, café and a garden. It’s quite a new place opened in April 2012.
It remains the heritage of organic industries, which originally were tanneries, wool washing factories and market gardens. That is why the place continues tradition and offers a wholesome, produce-driven menu.
The Cafe
There is an inside area with many tables to dine in. Everything in industrial, wooden style. There is also a nice solution for those who don’t want to dine in – quick grab and go area for people in rush. You can take there all the healthy options like salads, wraps, juices and smoothies. Perfect for a quick, fit lunch.
The Garden
The garden is my favorite place. This is an organic garden overflowing with vegetables, flowers, herbs, and fresh fruits.
There is also a place for a small farm animals including Kevin Bacon, the pig :)
The surrounding of the Garden is very beautiful and romantic. There are plenty of seats around, so you can easily find a place to relax in the sun. The Garden also offers take-away food from Juice Bar and Aussie style BBQ.
This is also the place where you can organize family meeting, birthday and weeding (I love the idea of magical, garden wedding – just look at the picture, isn’t it like a fairytale?)
The Food
Last, but not least. The menu is just crazy. There are so many tempting options, that it’s really hard to chose. Or maybe it’s me – I wanted to eat everything in the same time. Depends on the time, you have a breakfast and brunch&lunch menu. All amazing.
Once, I was there for breakfast and I had Grounds Baked eggs (free range eggs in rich tomato sauce with buffalo mozzarella, white beans, and dried tomatoes). It was delish!
Another time I had a steak sandwich and fresh watermelon juice. Heaven!
I also really like the conception of coffee you can take. Sure, there is a classic Espresso, Americano etc., but you can also try something different like Cold Drip (made with an ancient Japanese method) or Coffee tasting board for two (I had this one – brilliant!) – you can taste different types of coffee, served in various way. This is very interesting.
I also need to mention about the cakes and patisserie. Everything is baked right there, so the smell of fresh bread and donuts drive you crazy :)
The cakes are presented not only inside the café, but also in the garden on the small stands. It looks beautiful. Plan your cheat meal in advanced, cause you won’t resist :)
Pros:
- Everything!
Cons:
- Really can’t think about any…
